SERGEANT BLUFF--Paul Edward Uhl, 73, of Sergeant Bluff died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2006, at a Sioux City hospital following a lengthy illness. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of the Nativity in Sioux City, with the Rev. Gerald F. Feierfeil officiating. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Cemetery, Mapeton, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Loren--Hollister Post 496. Visitation will be 4:30 tp 8;.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Christ-Smith Larkin Northside Chapel. Mr. Uhl was born June 17, 1933, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of Jesse A. and Eleanor (Schleis) Uhl. He was raised on a farm in the Mapleton area. He served in the U.S. Army duing the Korean War. He married Juliann B. Navrkal on Aug. 17, 1963, in Waterbury, Neb. He continued to live in Mapleton until 1968, when the family moved to South Sioux City. In 1972, the family movedto Sioux City and in 1990, they moved to Sergeant Bluff. he was employed as a truck driver for the Midwest wholesale Grocery Co. of Mapleton for a number of years. He then operated heavy graders for a construction company for a few years. He then became a warehouseman for bekin's Warehouse Distribution Center. He retired because of health problems from complications with Multiple Sclerosis. He was a member of Nativity Catholic and American Legion Harty-McNaly Post of Jackson, Neb. He was a big University of Iowa Hawkeye fan. He enjoyed playing cards, polka music and went to dances at Shore Acres when able. He also enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. Most of al, he loved spending time with his family and took great pleasure from his grandchildren and their activities in sp;orts and dance. Survivors include his wife, Juliann "Julie" Uhl of Sergeant Bluff; a son and his wife, Jesse A. and Connie Uhl of Pleasant Hill, Hiwa and their children, Jared and Shelby Uhl; a son and his wife, Russell P. and Michelle Uhl of sergeant Bluff and their children, Britni and Brandon Uhl; a daughter, Brenda Sue Wilson and Mark Hestness, both of Runnels, Iowa and her daughter, Jessica Wilson, and his children, Cory, Colten, Caitlyn and Tyler Hestness; four brothers and their wives, Howard and Delores Uhl of Mapleton, Iowa, Lawrence and Sue Uhl of sparta, N. C., Dick and Jane Uhl of Pickerington, Ohio, and GAry and Jeanne Uhl of Elkhart, Iowa; five sisters, Carol Swenk of Sparta, N. C., Kay and her husband, Red Cadwell of FAir Oak, Calif., Lucille and her husband, ARlie Larson of Smithland, Iowa, Joy Dolan of fort Collins, Colo., and Phyllis and her husband, Vince Ahart of Coon Rapids, Minn.; several sisters-in-law; and browthers-in-law and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clyde Uhl; and a sister, Darlene Hurst.
