Bio
Roy Ray Buckner, age 73 of Hoover, Alabama died on December 2, 2005 following a short illness. Mr. Buckner was in the Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. He had a long career in automobile sales during which he was President of the Alabama Automobile Dealers Association and was owner of Roy Buckner Chevrolet in Bessemer, Alabama when he retired. Mr. Buckner was a past president of the Jonesboro Civitan Club, a member of the Board of Directors of Bessemer Carraway Hospital, member of the Board of Grace Lutheran Church, member of The Club, Woodward Golf and Country Club, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and the Zamora Shrine Temple. He was preceded in death by his parents, L. K. and Alice Buckner; brothers, James Buckner, Willie Buckner, Virgil Buckner and Tommy Buckner; sisters, Virginia Templin, Verda Bell, and Katie Reynolds. Survivors include his wife, Sue Buckner; sons, Barry (Donna) Buckner, Brian (Debra) Buckner; daughters, Bonnie (David) McElroy and Kitty Coats; sister, Jean Blair; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. The Memorial Service will be Monday, December 5, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at Southern Heritage Funeral Home, 475 Cahaba Valley Road, Pelham, The Rev. Paul Mills officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 4, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to: American Cancer Society, 1100 Ireland Way, Birmingham, AL 35205; The Foundry, 1816 6th Ave, Bessemer, AL 35020, or Pull- thru Network, 2312 Savoy Street, Hoover, AL 35226 or your favorite charity.
