Marie Julie (Chovanec) Hrachovy, 96, of Fayetteville, Texas, passed away on July 22, 2015 at the TruCare Nursing Center in Columbus, Texas. Marie was born in Ellinger, Texas on August 3, 1918, the daughter of Jos. F and Mary (Prihoda) Chovanec. She married Henry Hrachovy on October 18, 1938. Marie lived in the country all her life, working beside her husband as they raised corn, peanuts, cattle and chickens. She always had a big garden and did lots of canning. Everyone loved her pickles. She was a good cook and loved baking especially kolaches, strudel and angel food cake. She also did a lot of sewing and quilting and gave many a quilt to the St. Mary’s Church Feast Auction. Her favorite pastimes included playing bingo, dominoes, chicken foot and cards, especially “stick”. What she loved and enjoyed the most, was her family. “GiGi”, as she was affectionately called by her great-grandchildren, enjoyed spending time with them and watching all their many activities as they were growing up. GiGi loved raising chickens, something she did with her husband for many years while they were in the egg business and this passion continued through her grandchildren and great-children and their 4-H projects. She especially enjoyed all the family get-togethers. Marie was a member of St Mary’s for most of her life and was very active in the church taking care of various duties as long as her health allowed. She was a member of the Altar Society and treasurer for 25 years, treasurer of the KJZT for 23 years, and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Gerik of Fayetteville; two grandchildren: Lisa Matocha and husband, Mark, of Fayetteville and Rodney Gerik and wife, Thais, of La Grange; three great-grandchildren: Kaleb and Gabrielle Matocha of Fayetteville and Ben Gerik of La Grange; three sister-in-laws: Bernadette Kovar of Willow Springs, Alice Krenek, and Bea Baron and husband, Lawrence, all of Columbus; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; one infant son, Henry Jr.; son-in-law, Bennie Gerik; two brothers: Henry and Frankie Chovanec; four sisters: Christina Zapalac, Tonie Drab Machala, Claudia Hrachovy and Frances Gregory. Visitation will be held at St. Mary Church, 815 St. Mary’s Church Rd., Ellinger, Texas. Family will receive friends. A rosary will be recited. Funeral Services will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellinger, Texas with burial following in the St. Mary Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church, P. O.
