Bio

Larry Mihulka, 87, of Lincoln, formerly of Beatrice, died Thursday morning, July 23, 2015 at his home in Lincoln. He was born on July 1, 1928 at Schuyler and graduated from Schuyler High School in 1944. He served three years in the United States Air Force and took part in Operation Sandstone, the atomic bomb project in the Marshall Islands in 1948. He worked for Peoples Natural Gas for 10 years, Investors Diversified Services from 1960 to 1963 and was Cancer Crusade chairman of Colfax County in 1963. He was employed by Bryant Air Conditioning and Heating in Lincoln before moving to Beatrice in 1965 where he became the owner/operator of Custom Climate Control Heating-Air Conditioning and Sheet Metal from 1970 until 1996 when he retired. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church of Beatrice. He was also the oldest living member of Acacia Masonic Lodge #34 of Schuyler, Sesostris Shrine of Lincoln, a life-time member of American Legion Post #27, VFW and Alumni Association of Airways and Air Communication Society. He enjoyed taking care of his home, yard work, building radio control airplanes and reading history of WW II. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Kluck Mihulka; one daughter, Renee Pilypaitis and husband Kes of Tustin, CA; three granddaughters, Kelly Jourdan and husband Derek of Omaha, Jennifer Reid and husband Ryan of Lakewood, WA and Erin Hulsey of Omaha; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Jacob Reid; two step-grandchildren, Erik and Tiffany Pilypaitis; one brother, Rodney Mihulka and wife Norma of Bremerton, WA; one brother-in-law, Tom Krivohlavek of Schuyler; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Arlene Rouse Mihulka; his first wife, Edna Varejcka Mihulka; a daughter, Gina Mihulka; three brothers, Marvin, Beverly and Bernard Mihulka. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, July 27, 2015 at Centenary United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Schutt officiating. Inurnment of the cremains will be at the Evergreen Home Cemetery of Beatrice. A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. in the church library on Monday. Memorials are suggested to the Sesostris Road Runners Fund. Cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing. A guestbook for signatures will be available at Fox Funeral Home from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Sunday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Monday.
