Fisher Funeral Home Inc July 19, 2015 Delmar L. Racette, 88, of Albany died Tuesday in Lebanon. Born in Clyde, Kansas, Delmar was raised in Kansas and then entered the US Navy, serving in WWII as a signalman and gunner. After his discharge he returned to Kansas but had seen and loved Oregon. Delmar married Norma Rogers in 1945 and together they moved to Albany. Delmar began his metallurgy career with the US Bureau of Mines in Albany, and then was one of many who started Oremet where he was the Director of Quality Control, retiring at age 56. Delmar had a master's degree in metallurgy and a bachelor's degree in geology, which transitioned nicely into being a rockhound as a hobby. He also enjoyed fishing and going to casinos. Delmar was a member of Albany St. Mary's Catholic Church and American Legion Post 10. Survivors include his daughters Leisa Lindberg and husband Steven of Lacomb, and Starla Finch of Albany; grandchildren William Lindberg, Savanna Duran and husband Robert, Philip Lindberg, Carmen Finch, and Timothy Finch; and great granddaughter Naomi Lindberg. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma; 2 sisters and one brother. A viewing will be from Noon to 3pm on Sunday at Fisher Funeral Home. A funeral Mass will be at 11am Monday at Albany St. Mary's Catholic Church, followed by a reception, and then graveside committal service with full military honors at Willamette Memorial Park.
