Bio

Mrs. Melvin Edmonds passed away at Omaha Sunday, September 1, 1940, at the age of 22 years, six months and 15 days. She had been in ill health for about a year. Mildred Alice Justus was born February 17, 1918, at Spalding, Nebraska, and lived on the farm with her parents until 1927 when they moved to Albion. She attended school here and graduated from the Albion high school with the class of 1935. Following her graduation she taught a term of school in Wheeler county. She attended the Methodist church and became a member of the same at the age of eleven. June 17, 1936, she was united in marriage with Leonard Melvin Edmonds at Council Bluffs, Iowa. To this union were born Gregory Leon, December 21, 1937, and Emily Jo, September 7, 1939. Since her marriage she had lived in Omaha. She leaves to mourn, her husband, Melvin, and two children, of Omaha; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Justus of Spalding; a sister, Mrs. Lee Cathro of Omaha; two brothers, Edgar and Melvin Justus of Spalding; her husband's parents, Rev. and Mrs. Earl F. Edmonds of Chadron and his brothers, Buddy and Thomas and sister, Beth. Mrs. Edmonds was a loving and faithful wife and a dutiful mother. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Albion Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Pace, pastor, read the scriptures and offered prayer. Rev. Edmonds preached the sermon using as his theme, "Stilling the Tempest". Mrs. Z. L. Lancaster, Wallace and Maxine and Rev. Pace sang "Does Jesus Care", "Goodnight and Good Morning", and "Sweet Bye and Bye". Burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery with Rev. Pace officiating at the burial service.
