Bio

Edgar Alan Martinets, 77, of Taft, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 4, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Edgar was born on September 5, 1934, to Gladys and Jerome Martinets and was raised in Granger, Texas. Edgar attended Texas A&M University and was a member of the Corps of Cadets. After only one semester he was drafted into the US Army where he served a two year tour in Europe in the 2nd Armored Division as a tank driver. While in the Army, he was also a trumpet player in the U. S. Army Band, Drum and Bugle Corps, playing at NATO events and parades throughout Europe. Following the service, Edgar met his soul mate and love of his life, Janis Bishop, while visiting relatives in Taft. They were married on July 9, 1960, and were by each others side ever since. Edgar soon purchased his wholesale fuel business and has served the farming community in San Patricio County and surrounding counties for over fifty years. During these fifty plus years there have been many good friends, good times and loyal customers. The stories that could be told are too many to mention, but they would all have three things in common: family, friends and a cold beer! Edgar never met a stranger and was always there to help anyone in need, no matter what or who it may be. Edgar loved his family more than life itself and cherished his relationships with his many friends and customers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Edgar is preceded in death by his mother and father, Gladys and Jerome Martinets and his brother, Jerome Martinets, Jr. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Janis Martinets; daughter, Julie (Taylor) Edwards of Sinton, Texas; son, Bret (Tonia) Martinets of Port Lavaca, Texas; brother , Patrick (Kathy) Martinets of Round Rock, Texas; grandsons: Trey, Justin and Corey Martinets, Dylan and Tanner Sharp; great-grandson, Oliver Martinets; cousin, Billy Fikes of Taft; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, March 6, 2012. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on March 7, 2012, at Colonial Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Mayo officiating. Burial will follow the service at Taft Memorial Park. Serving as Pallbearers will be: Pete Martinets, Mark Martinets, Jason Martinets, Taylor Edwards, Billy Cruz and Brandon Guerra. The family would like to thank the many caregivers along the way, including, Spohn Memorial, Retama Manor, Odyssey and Vista Care at Trinity Towers.
