CEDAR RAPIDS—Eugene “Gene” Joseph DeMuth, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion. Services will be Friday, July 17th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids with Msgr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating. Burial will be at St. Anthony’s Catholic Cemetery with Military Rights conducted by Dan Cox American Legion Post No. 44 of Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be Thursday, July 16th from 5-7 p.m. with Scripture Service at 7 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church. Gene was born March 19, 1932 to Nicholas and Augusta (Corring) DeMuth in David City. He attended St. Anthony’s Catholic High School in Cedar Rapids until the 9th grade. After, he did masonry work and later worked on a gas line. He also worked for numerous farmers in the area. He joined the U.S. Army in January of 1953 and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the Army in January 1955. He married Mary Jane Fitzsimmons on October 8, 1956 and the union was blessed with three children. He owned Duke’s Waterhole in Cedar Rapids for a short while in the 1980s. They resided on a farm outside of Cedar Rapids until his death. He enjoyed farming, bowling, and golfing. He also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas and Deadwood, SD. He loved his grandchildren. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, the Community Club, and American Legion Post 44 in Cedar Rapids. He is survived by his wife; son, Don (Tricia) DeMuth of Fullerton; sister, Mary Jane DeMuth of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law, Gary Fisher of Albion; 3 grandchildren, Landon Knopik and fiancé, Ashley Pickell, Kennedi DeMuth, and Chloe DeMuth, all of Fullerton. He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Ronnie DeMuth; daughter, Kathy Fisher; and sister, Lavonne Prachensky.
