DWIGHT M. WOOD - OBITUARY (Published in the Iowa City Press-Citizen Newspaper on Saturday, April 20, 1957.) Dwight M. Wood Dies; Rites Set Dwight M. Wood, 55, of 932 South Van Buren street, died at University hospital earlier today after an extended illness. Mr. Wood was born at Correctionville, October 24, 1901, a son of the Rev. Leonard H. and Elsie Sullivan Wood. As a youth, Mr. Wood lived in several Iowa communities and his father was once pastor of the Sharon Evangelical United Brethern church. He was married to Maude Campbell in Belle Plaine in 1925. The couple established their home on a farm near Tiffin in 1939 and came to Iowa City three years ago. Mr. Wood was a member of the Evangelical United Brethern church of Cedar Rapids. Survivors include his widow; a daughter, Mrs. Ivan Ball, of Tiffin, two sons, Lorin, of Tiffin, and Donald, of Iowa City; six grandchildren, his mother of West Fork, Ark.; two sisters, Mrs. W. R. Ferguson, of West Fork, and Mrs. Faith Peters, of Chicago, and a brother, Paul, of Farmington, Ark. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services are to be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the Oathout funeral chapel with the Rev. L. L. Dunnington, of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. The family requests no flowers. A memorial fund is being established with proceeds to go to research on respiratory diseases.
