Bio

Ceresco, Mich. -- Sidney Michael Kinney, 81, Ceresco, died Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2002, in Battle Creek, Mich. He was born April 10, 1921, in Douglas, Wyo., the son of Michael Henry and Bell Leah Cargill Kinney. He had lived in Lawrence, Kan., and Topeka before moving to Michigan in 1999. Mr. Kinney was employed by the Windsor Review at Windsor, Mo., and published a weekly newspaper. He later worked for the Topeka Daily Capital newspaper and then in the state of Kansas printing office before retiring in 1981. He served in the Army during World War II at Fort Custer in Battle Creek. He was a member of the medical detachment of the 243rd Engineer Combat Battalion in the European theater and was decorated with the American theater service ribbon, the European theater service ribbon, the Good Conduct medal and the WWII Victory medal. He married Ines M. Gretencord. She died in 1997. He married Helen Mae Dilsaver in 1999 at Ceresco. She survives. Other survivors include two stepdaughters, Loretta Brandeberry and Joan Herzing; a sister, Mildred Williams, Topeka; and several grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Richard A. Henry Funeral Home in Battle Creek. Burial will be in Newton Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home. Topeka Capital-Journal, 10/25/2002
