Joe Clinton Parmer was born on the family farm south of Broxton, Oklahoma on April 10, 1926. He passed away at his home near Apache, Oklahoma on March 3, 2025. A viewing is scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Crews Funeral Home from 10am-7pm. A graveside service is scheduled for 2pm, Friday, March 7, at Fairview Cemetery with Jim Hall officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Garrett Parmer, Harmon Parmer, Jordan Parmer, James Parmer, Michael Parmer, and Clinton Parmer. As a youngster, he attended school in Stecker, OK. His family moved to California during the Great Depression. In high school, he played basketball for Rohr Aircraft in 1943-44 with his brother, Denton. Clint then left high school to join the Navy during World War II. While stationed in California, he played basketball on several military teams. When the war ended, he returned to Apache to complete high school and graduated in 1947. He married his high school sweetheart, Betty Laverne Belcher on June 5, 1948. To this union, three children were born. Jody, Gaye and Brent. Clint, pursuing his love of basketball, played professionally for the Tulsa Ranchers (Oilers) until the league folded in 1947. He played in the 1949 State Sandlot Tournament for Apache. Clint then attended Phillips University in Enid, OK where he played college baseball for the Haymakers, hitting home runs and even pitching, resulting in the team becoming the Oklahoma Collegiate Conference Champions in 1950 and runner-up in 1951. After graduating from Phillips, Clinton embarked on a teaching and coaching career as an educator at Apache in 1953, serving as the grade school principal, high school baseball coach and high school boys' and girls' basketball coach. In 1955, he moved to Amarillo, TX to work at the Amarillo Air Force Base, where he became an instructor for the military, teaching pilots how to use an ejector seat. He returned to teaching in 1957 at East Grade Elementary in Anadarko, OK. In 1958, Clint returned to the Apache area and became the principal, teacher and coach at Boone Grade School until 1965. He then spent four years in Liberal, KS teaching math at West Junior High and later principal at one of the elementary schools. He returned to the Apache area in 1971 and was acting Superintendent for Apache School District before returning to Boone Grade School where he completed his career in 1983. Clint loved being outdoors, and enjoyed quail hunting, fishing and would spend summers helping on his father-in-law's farm. He engaged in farming and ranching his own place, and, along with his longtime friend, Gwynn Miller, raised race horses for several years. After his retirement from farming in 1995, he could be found spending time on the golf course. He was also a faithful, and dedicated member of the First Christian Church of Apache. Clinton is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; two sons: Jody Parmer and Brent and his wife, Jennifer; grandchildren: Clinton and wife Nicole and their children, Michael and Alea, Abby and son Jordan, Garrett and wife, Kaitlyn and son, Lincoln, Madyson and husband, Harlan Mindemann and daughter, Parker; great-grandchildren: James, Cheyenne and husband, Justin Townley and their children, Jace and Shaelee. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Walter Scott and Clara May (Miller) Parmer; his sister, Ruth Huber; brothers Homer, George and Oris Parmer, his twin brother, Denton Parmer; his daughter, Deanna Gaye Gregg and granddaughter, Jenny Parmer.
