Bio
Barnie Lee Jones, 91, formerly of Rockdale, passed away Tuesday evening, June 23, 2015, in Bertram, Texas. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, June 23, 2015, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Pastor Delton Weiser officiating. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Barnie was born in Littig, Texas, to the late Ottie Jack and Cora Lee (Cottle) Jones. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, serving in five campaigns, receiving five Battle Stars, and was there for D-Day. Barnie was a member of the 543rd Q M Depot Supply Company. He married Dorothy Arlene Romine on August 3, 1945, in Austin, Texas. He worked for Butler Brick Company in Elgin, Texas for nine years; he then worked at ALCOA for 25 years as a Line Foreman. Barnie was a member of both Thorndale Baptist Church and Meadowbrook Baptist Church. He was very active in all church activities, was an usher, Sunday school teacher, deacon, and served as past secretary of the adult Sunday school class. He also helped with Little League, Boy Scouts, was very active in senior citizen activities and was a member of VFW Lodge 6525. He is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy A. Jones; son, Ronnie Jones; brothers: James Jones, Abner Jones, Donnell Jones, and Roy D. Jones; and sisters: Mildred Morgan, Dorothy Reed, and Edith Pyle. Survivors include his sons, Ricky Lynn Jones and his wife, Patty, of Rockdale, and Randy Lyle Jones, of Liberty Hill; daughter, Rhonda Lynette Woolverton and her husband, Robert, of Liberty Hill; grandchildren: Kandy Jones and Buddy Stokes, Jeremy Jones, Ronnie Jones Jr. and his wife, Merranda, Tiffany Elert and her husband, James, and Tiana Beasley and her husband, Nathan; great-grandchildren: Jadyn Jones, Addison Jones, Aedyn Gibson, Savannah Grace Elert, Lylah Jo Elert, and Kaleb Elert; brother-in-law, Harry Pyle; and Dorothy's siblings, Joyce Cope and her husband, Charlie, Eugene Preece and his wife, Mary Jo, and Lorene Wright; other relatives and many friends.
