Mass of Christian Burial for LaVerne Kemp, age 89, of Niobrara, Nebraska will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 27, 2019, at St. William’s Catholic Church in Niobrara. Reverend Jeremy Hans will be Celebrant, with burial in L’Eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the church, with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service. LaVerne died Friday, June 21, 2019, at Alpine Village in Verdigre, Nebraska. LaVerne (Lenhoff) Kemp, daughter of Elo and Elsie (Brandl) Lenhoff, was born March 12, 1930, on a farm near Osmond, Nebraska. She was baptized at St. Mary’s Church in Osmond when she was an infant. LaVerne attended rural schools in Keya Paha County, finishing the eighth grade and then attended St. Mary’s Academy in O’Neill her freshman year. She transferred to St. Ludger Academy to finish her high school education, graduating in 1948. LaVerne taught in rural schools in Knox County for several years, On June 15, 1953, LaVerne married Arthur Kemp at St. Ludger Catholic Church in Creighton. They made their home in Niobrara where they ran a service station and tank wagon business. Following the death of Arthur Kemp in 1969, Mrs. Kemp continued to run the business, relocating in the New Niobrara. In 1987, she discontinued the business and worked at Platte River State Park near Louisville, Nebraska for eight years. She retired in 1995. Mrs. Kemp was an active member of St. William’s Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She also taught CCD for many years. LaVerne was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. LaVerne is survived by her six children, Ann Marie Mitchum, Lois (Tom) Sjogren, Gerald (Denise) Kemp, Alan (Connie) Kemp, Linda (Steve) Paesl, and Mary (Lawrence) Mozena; son-in-law, Michael Stoltenberg; She was preceded in death by her parents, Elo and Elsie (Brandl) Lenhoff; husband, Arthur; daughter, Gwen Stoltenberg; and son-in-law, William Mitchum.
