Elling "Tut" O. Klippen, 71, formerly of Bismarck, died June 25, 2006, in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota. Tut was born on August 2, 1934, in Makoti, North Dakota, the son of Ole and Elvina (Engstrom) Klippen. He grew up and attended school in Garrison, North Dakota, graduating from high school in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army from December 1956 – November 1958, and was stationed in France. He married LaVina Schwarz in 1959. They were married for 31 years. They moved to Bismarck in 1960 and Tut worked for the City of Bismarck Water Department for 30 years, retiring in 1993 due to health problems. Tut enjoyed visiting with people on his route. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, wood carving, pick-ups with loud mufflers, and he even enjoyed rock music. In December 2001, he moved to Minnesota to be closer to his family. A highlight for Tut while he was living at the Regina Assisted Living Facility in Hastings, Minnesota, was being elected Valentine King 2005. Tut is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and Eric Dula, Boca Raton, FL; one son and daughter-in-law, Wesley and Teresa Klippen, Inver Grove Heights, MN; seven grandchildren, Christopher Skorheim, Angela Zafke, Robert Klippen, Joshua Klippen, Melissa Klippen, Nikita Dula, and Nikolai Dula; eight great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Wencke and John Schweizer, Annandale, VA; and his nieces, Susan McGuiness, Nancy Fraker, and Margaret Marquis. He was preceded in death by his parents and his former wife, LaVina. Funeral services will be at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with Rev. Wes Aardahl officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by VFW Post #1326.
