Hanus, 66, were held Saturday, January 1, 1966, at 3:30 p.m., in the Schaetter Funeral Home and at 3:45 p.m., in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. J. J. Hildebrand officiated in the rites. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery. Dr. Hanus died on Thursday, Dec. 30, 1965, at 9 a.m. in Austin. He was a native of Bryan, Texas, where he was born Dec. 31, 1898, the son of Joseph J. Hanus Sr., and Emilie Kocurek Hanus. He was married to Laura Bierschwale in rites held in New Orleans. A graduate of the Tulane Medical School, Dr. Hanus practiced medicine in Fredericksburg from 1925-1941, and operated the Hanus Sanatorium on Wesst Main Street, in the building now the home of the Sisters of Divine Providence of St. Mary's School. He was in the military service from 1941-49 and for 17 years was a member of the staff of the Austin State Hospital, from 1946-63. Dr. Hanus was a member of St. Austin Catholic Church, in Austin and a World War II veteran. In addition to his wife, Mrs. Laura Bierschwale Hanus, of Austin; he is survived by two sons, Ernst Hanus, San Antonio; and Stanley (Jack) Hanus, Dallas. Also surviving are three grandchildren; and three sisters; Mrs. Jess Stanfield, Waco; Mrs. V. Madra, Houston; and Mrs. Walter Krenek, Vanderbilt. He was preceded in death by a brother, Willie Hanus. Pallbearers at his rites were; Calvin Bierschwale, William Bierschwale, Elmer Bierschwale, Keyser Bierschwale, Roy Bierschwale and Joe Duderstadt.
