Bio

Thomas Lee Payne, 72, of 3982 Massing Court died Thursday following a brief illness, at his residence. He was born November 4, 1933 in Oklahoma, the son of the late Ethel and JC Fast. Raised and adopted by his grandparents, Romulus and Sarah Payne, he attended Texas Military Academy from 1947 â€" 1951 and served in Korea from 1953 to 1955. He returned to Erie in 1956 and worked for Rockwell International and General Electric for many years. He retired from GE in 1998. He was a former Mason, belonged to the American Legion Post 773, Sportsmen's Club and V.F.W. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only sibling, Judd Payne, who passed away in October. Survivors include six children: Mary Friedman, Thomas Payne, a Captain in the U.S. Navy and currently serving in Iraq, Jeffrey Shellito, Laura Thomas, Linda Duncan and Curtis Payne; ten grandchildren and his dear friend and companion Lynn McIntire.
