Dardanella Williams Pickle, 94, passed away Friday, June 19, 2015. Service: 10 a.m. Tuesday in Arlington Chapel. Interment: Parkdale Cemetery, Arlington. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Arlington Chapel. Dardanella was born March 19, 1921, to John W. Williams and Maggie Mary (Dola) Wiley Williams. She grew up on a farm in Springfield surviving the Great Depression, diphtheria, and typhoid fever. On May 13, 1939, she eloped with Floyd Edwin Pickle. Their long and devoted marriage endured World War II separation as well as the normal challenges of life until Floyd's death in 1992. In Lufkin, Dardanella was a longtime office manager and bookkeeper in auto dealerships, primarily Volkswagen of America. Upon "retirement" she and Floyd started a florist business in Athens. Their last move was to Arlington in 1986. Always active in her church as a Sunday school teacher and later as a faithful member of First Christian Church of Arlington, she was quick to share her faith with all she met. Never meeting a stranger, she made many lifelong friends. She loved her daughter and her three grandchildren and played a major role in their lives, never failing to come to their aid when they called. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Jack and John W. Williams Jr.; and son-in-law, Gerald W. Tucker. Published in Star-Telegram on June 21, 2015
