Bio
Frank was born on December 17, 1944 in David City, Neb., the son of Frances Tesina and Francis Theodore Vanderheiden. He was baptized at St. Francis Church in rural Butler County. In 1947, the family moved to a new farm in Buena Vista County, where he graduated from Albert City High School. Frank was a private in the U.S. Army. He married Karen Scott and had four children: Jon, Michelle, Amy and Mary. Frank lived on the family farm and farming was his life. A series of unfortunate circumstances in the 1980s led to his needing to leave the farm. In addition, he struggled with a devastating fire which took all of their belongings and their home. In the late 1980s, he moved to Des Moines and worked as a cab driver. He was a kind and loving father and a very generous man. Frank is survived by four children: Jon (Cheryl), Michelle (Eddie) Valentine, Amy and Mary; six grandchildren: Jon Jr., Steven, Nicholas, Wesley, Jonahs, and Jaden; three step grandchildren: Stephanie, Jessica and Ashley; step-great grandchild Kaitlynn, all of Arkansas; two sisters, Anne Cunningham of Tigard, Ore., and Mary Chase of Omaha; and brother John Vanderheiden of Bend, Ore.
