Bio

Lillian Ruth (Johnson) Vasa died May 10, 2015, after living a long and full life. Lillian was born in Arthur County, Neb., on Oct. 4, 1928, the daughter of Nels Johnson and Myrtle (Dancer) Johnson. Lillian graduated from Ogallala High School in Ogallala, Neb., and attended college at the Nebraska State Teachers College in Kearney. Lillian married Pete Rasmussen in 1950 and had one child, Carissa. Pete passed away shortly after their marriage. Lillian married John Vasa in 1952. They moved to Longmont in 1962 and then to Holyoke in 1965. Lillian worked as a school teacher, telephone operator, assembly line worker, bookkeeper and elevator operator, but her most important job was partner to her husband John in his farming and mother to her children. Lillian loved traveling, reading, playing cards, sewing, and spending time with friends and family. She especially enjoyed the time she had with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Lillian is survived by her daughter, Carissa Hill and husband Marc of Wichita Falls, Texas; sons, Ken and wife Nancy of Monmouth, Ore., Mike and wife Peggy of Winamac, Ind., Pat and wife Danette of Holyoke, and Phil and wife Susie of Holyoke; daughter, Lisa and husband Ken of Helena, Mont.; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, William Johnson and wife Deanna of Alliance, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; brother, Edward Johnson; sisters, Florence Smith, Frances Adams and Pauline Jasnoch; grandson, Joshua Jones; and her first husband, Pete Rasmussen. Services were scheduled for Thursday, May 14, at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Holyoke with interment to follow at the Holyoke Cemetery.
