Bio

William "Gene" Eugene Barnard passed away on May 7, 2015 he was born on September 10, 1923 to William A. and Roza Ewald Barnard in Austin, Texas. He served in the 785th tank battalion company "C" in the Pacific during WWII for four years. He was employed by Texas Department of Transportation from 1946-1986 as a project engineer which he was hired to oversee the construction of Austin and surrounding area landmarks, which included Inner Space Cavern and the Town Lake Bridge. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family and taking trips to Port Aransas, and he was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Longhorns. Preceded in death by his parents and brother Harold "Bubba" Barnard. William is survived by his wife of 68 years, Gloria Jo Barnard, son, Michael Barnard and wife Kathy Barnard. Grandchildren: Kristy Barnard, William Barnard and Debra Langley. Four Great-Grand Children: Dakota, Katelynn, Dylan, and Ethan and special niece and nephew Sharon Beene and Duane Digby and nephews Harold and Kenneth Barnard. Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family at Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas.
