Ernest L. Kozisek, 92, of Grand Island died on Friday, May 1, 2015, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. Fr. Don Buhrman will officiate. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors provided by the United States Army and Grand Island Veterans’ Honor Guard. All Faiths Funeral Home is serving the family. Ernest was born on Aug. 12, 1922 in Brainard, Neb., to Frank and Theresa (Rerucha) Kozisek. Those left to cherish his memory are his children, Roger (Mary) Kozisek of Lincoln, Tom (Norma) Kozisek of Colorado Springs, Dan (Carol) Kozisek of Lincoln, Jim Kozisek of California, Joe (Dianne) Kozisek of Lincoln, Margaret Kozisek of Grand Island, Alice (George) Georgis of Chicago, Timothy Kozisek of Grand Island, Monica Kozisek of Grand Island, and Barbara (Scott) Bills of Grand Island; a daughter-in-law, Donna Kozisek; 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, along with a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, on June 7, 2002; a son, George Kozisek; a daughter, Mary Ann Kozisek; his parents, and brothers, Alfred and George. Ernest grew up and graduated from Seward High School in 1939. He entered the United States Army on Dec. 23, 1940, serving in World War II. He was united in marriage to Dolores Sullivan in 1943 in Dothan, Ala. The couple lived in Dothan and North Carolina while Ernest was in the service. He was honorably discharged on June 21, 1945. They relocated to Grand Island in 1950. Ernest worked as a carpenter for various construction firms until his retirement. He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, VFW, Knights of Columbus and American Legion. His enjoyments included fishing, riding motorcycles, hunting and auctions. He was happy to have been a part of a Hall County World War II Hero Flight.
