Bio

My mother was born in Denton County, Texas, to Sterling Francis Tarpley and George Ella Smith Tarpley. They moved to Frisco, Collin County, Texas, about 1903 (all of about two miles away) because of a crop failure. My grandfather Tarpley then became a salesman for J. I Case Implement Company (at that time, it was mostly just tractors). They moved around for several years to Texarkana and Denton before finally settling in Waco by about 1913. She and my dad, Wesley S. Miers married in 1935 and they moved to Dallas about two years later, where I was born. In Waco, she was an executive secretary for Amicable Life Insurance until she married my dad (who is buried next to her). They moved to Dallas in the summer of 1937, while pregnant with me. As I grew up, she was active in the PTA in Lida Hooe Elementary, Greiner Jr. High, and Sunset High School; and made all my clothes. I always hated shopping. When we needed to go shopping in downtown Dallas (there were no neighborhood shopping centers then), she would bribe me by promising that if we got all our shopping done, we could go to the picture show in the afternoon. That always worked. About 1971, after I had moved out to So. CA, they moved to the other side of Dallas to be closer to her brother, Frank Smith Tarpley (also on Find A Grave in Restland Cem. in Dallas) and his family. In 1984, I had to move them both out here, near me, because of their deteriorating health, body, and minds. Thank you for all the values you both gave me.
