Joan Wilson Carrell, our Mom who was lovingly known to her family as “Mam”, was called into the gates of Heaven on Friday, May 1, 2015. Joan was born on December 12, 1928 in Corpus Christi, Texas to Claudia A. and George Michael Wilson. Joan is a proud descendant of the George Reynolds family, the founding family of Orange Grove, Texas, where the Wilson’s lived until she was 12 years old. They then moved to Corpus Christi and Joan graduated from Incarnate Word Academy in 1947 and continued her education at Del Mar College. Joan married Robert Clayton Carrell and had five children before they divorced. She independently raised, financially supported and instilled a set of values to guide each of them through their lives. That same spirit lives on in her children and grandchildren and will always be the bond that keeps them together. She lived her entire life for her children and “Mam” frequently said that her greatest accomplishment in this life was her children. Joan spent many years working at PPG Plant and managing apartment properties in the Corpus Christi area. Joan was an avid bridge player all of her adult life. She played bridge with so many amazing people and kept those friendships she cherished throughout her life. Joan was proceeded in death by her parents and her brother George Michael Wilson, Jr. She is survived by her loving sister, Claudette Wilson White. She is also survived by her five children, Bobbie Mellard (Norman) of Germantown, Tennessee, Mike Carrell (Betsy), Patti Douglas (Chris), and Barbara Bolus (Mark) all of Corpus Christi, Texas and Clay (Grace) Carrell of Houston, Texas. “Mam” also leaves behind thirteen grandchildren of whom will all greatly miss her involvement in their lives. Brian Mellard, Leslie (Hector) Pineyro, Mark Carrell, Mason Carrell, Lindsey Douglas, Abbey (Nick) Graham, Kristen (Joe) Colla, Evan Schulz, Mallory Bolus, Brett Bolus, Laurel Carrell, Clayton Carrell and Wilson Carrell and three Great-grandchildren, Dylan Mellard, Gaston Pineyro and Ledger Colla as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Our family was so Blessed having the people of Villa South, Irma Clarich, and Malou Viera, who very lovingly helped us care for our mom, during her life. Villa South became Mom’s, and our families, second home and all of the residents our extended family. Each staff member always caring for Mom and our entire family with so much love, compassion and dignity. The doors were always open for her children, grandchildren, relatives and her faithful friends. We will always be grateful for Villa South being such a big part of our lives with our Mom! A Rosary and a Memorial Mass was held at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church.
