Bio
Rowena M. Mitchell, a former Muskogee resident, passed away April 28, 2015, at the University Village Retirement Community Health Center in Tulsa. She was 96. Mrs. Mitchell was born October 8, 1918, to James Ted and Ruby Grace Palmer at the Muskogee Hospital. Along with her brothers Woodrow Ted and Eugene Ray, both of whom predeceased her, she grew up in Muskogee, making her home here for many years. A 1936 graduate of Muskogee High School she married Norris M. Mitchell on September 1, 1950. Mitchell, a Muskogee attorney, was employed by the Veterans Administration at the VA Regional Office until he retired in 1977. He died in 1997. Known to her friends as "Roe" and to her family as "Granny," Mrs. Mitchell lived a full life. She was an avid bowler in her younger years, participating in 3-4 leagues each week. Before her failing health she was a devoted housewife and was renowned by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as the "best cook ever." Her positive outlook and always stylish appearance were observed by all who had the pleasure of meeting and socializing with her throughout her lifetime. She is survived by her son Roger and his wife Nancy of Austin, Texas; granddaughters Sara Mitchell Jebaily and husband Greg, of Austin, Texas; Darla Spotts of Jenks, Oklahoma; and great-grandsons Kyle Zimmerman and Tyler Spotts. Also surviving her are nephews H.W. Peace II of Oklahoma City, Mike Mitchell of Pickerington, Ohio, and Jim Palmer of Boulder City, Nevada and their families. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 2nd at the Memorial Park Cemetery where interment will follow.
