Bio

Kathryn was born March 31, 1897 to Frank and Tena Vavra. Her mother immigrated to America from Bohemia, and her father, Frank Vavra, was born in Butler County, Nebraska. In 1900, Katie lived with her parents, two sisters, and 3 Bohemian boarders at 263 S. Twentieth Street, South Omaha, Nebraska. The 1900 US Census was unique in that it gave birth month and year to each person. Frank Vavra, 25, head, b.Apr.1875 NE, butcher Tena Vavra, 22, wife, b.Oct.1877 Boh. Mary Vavra, 5, dau. b.Jan.1895, NE Katie Vavra, 3, dau. b.Mar.1897, NE Emily Vavra, 11 months, dau., b. Died age 77 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sources: Omaha Archdiocese cemetery records; Greater Omaha Genealogical Society; National Archives; kind assistance of FindaGrave volunteer cpn (#49188271) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We never called Aunt Kate anything but Aunt Kate...not Katie...so I guess that depended upon who was doing the enumeration. My great-grandmother's name was Antoinette, but she did go by Tena. The girl named Emily was actually named Emma.... My grandmother was Mary...they later had another daughter named Helen. Glad to get the names of the boarders. Those addresses were all changed after 1918 when South Omaha became part of Omaha. The house must have been good sized to accommodate the boarders. It was probably somewhere between S and Q Streets...or maybe north of Q. Frank Vavra was born in Butler County NE in 1874 and Antoinette was born Czechia. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ above from great-granddaughter Carol; kind assistance of FindaGrave volunteer CPN 49188271 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
