Albert Emgarten, 91, of Central City died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at the Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital Long Term Care in Central City. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Solt Funeral Home, with Sister Mary Arie officiating. Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established. Mr. Emgarten was born Dec. 12, 1909, in Ceresco to William N. and Elizabeth (Gilster) Emgarten. He attended District 37 School. Mr. Emgarten moved to Central City in 1919 and farmed all his life. He married Dorothy Everett on May 25, 1932, in Central City. Mr. Emgarten worked several area jobs before entering the U.S. Army on Sept. 29, 1943, at Ft. Crook. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 21, 1945, at Ft. Levenworth, Kan. He served in the North Apennies and PO Valley, where he received a good conduct medal. Mr. and Mrs. Emgarten helped many families raise their children. Mr. Emgarten enjoyed cats, dogs and his farm animals. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 6 of Central City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, on Jan. 18, 2001, four brothers and seven sisters.
