Kathryn Lynn Jacquot Sledge, 55, of Omaha, passed away Dec. 16, 2014, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha. A wake was Dec. 19, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with Msgr. Joseph Hanefeldt presiding. A Mass of Christian Burial was Dec. 20 with Fr. Frank Baumert officiating. Burial was at Dale Catholic Cemetery, Merna, with Fr. Jim Hunt presiding at the graveside service. Kathryn Lynn Jacquot was born Jan. 3, 1959 in Broken Bow, to Cecil Xavier and Meta Christine [Steinmeyer] Jacquot, the eighth of eight children. Kathryn spent her childhood on the family farm west of Merna. She attended elementary school at the Anselmo-Merna Public school in Merna and graduated Valedictorian of her class in 1977. She later attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated in December 1985 with degrees in Accounting and Finance. Her youthful years were filled with 4-H projects: baking, canning, cooking, sewing, gardening and babysitting. Kathryn’s 4-H projects included giving presentations both at the county and state level. These presentations were primarily in the area of food science, particularly food preservation. Kathryn carried all of this great 4-H experience into her adult years. She was a member of St. Anselm’s Catholic Church of Anselmo, and attended the Catholic Youth Organization. She played the organ for the church choir, weddings and funerals. She enjoyed family life with many nephews, nieces and cousins. Kathryn met Michael [Earnest] Parker Sledge while attending college at UNL. The two married Oct. 11, 1981, in Lincoln. After Kathryn’s graduation from college, she and Michael moved to Colorado Springs, Colo., where she worked for the Ingolls Company and Michael worked for Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad in Denver. They later moved to Omaha where Michael continued to work at BNSF - Lincoln, and together they owned Cuming Street Liquor Store, a business operated with Michael’s family. They had two children, Melissa Leigh Sledge, born Aug. 19, 1984, and Phillip Michael Sledge, born Feb. 2, 1989, in Omaha. They were members of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and the children attended Catholic school at St. James Seton Elementary School, and Marian and Roncalli Catholic High Schools. Kathy served as Music Director at SEA for many years, accompanying the adult and children’s choirs, cantors for Mass, and also for many weddings and funerals. After Michael’s death of cancer in 2006, Kathryn worked as Business Director in the Parish Office and continued to be active in the music ministry. Kathryn’s hobbies included sewing, crafting and playing her baby grand piano, a cherished gift from her husband. She loved family life and her children, and often traveled back home to Merna to visit relatives. She was a great cook and baker and enjoyed preparing large family dinners during the holidays. Sundays were an important day to Kathy and her family. They would always spend it together, starting with going to Mass. Then they would do something new and exciting, like taking an impromptu road trip to Kansas City. The family took a vacation in July 1999 and drove to Colorado Springs, Colo., to enjoy family time and relaxation. Kathy’s children, Melissa and Phil, also enjoyed going fishing with their Grandpa, Claude Sledge Sr. Kathy commented that they would disappear for hours, bringing home the fish for her to cook. Kathy’s memory is a keepsake. While God has her in his arms, her family has her in their hearts forever. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael (Earnest) Parker Sledge, 2006; son, Phillip Michael Sledge, 2014; parents Cecil Xavier and Meta Christine Jacquot, 2001; sister, Mary Elaine Jacquot, 1940; brother, Gerald Cecil Jacquot, 2000; & niece, Christina Miller Stellings, 2009. Kathryn is survived by her daughter, Melissa Leigh Sledge, Omaha; sisters and brothers-in-law, Phyllis Jean and Bill Miller, Anchorage, Alaska; Marita Christine and KC Gottschalk, Broken Bow; sisters, Patricia Anne Downey and Mary Louise Coffman, both of Broken Bow; brother and sister-in-law, William Joseph and Jan Jacquot, Loveland Colo.; aunts, Bernice Miller and Lois Morrison, Broken Bow; and a whole host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and loved ones.
