"Hedvika T. “Hattie” Claussen, 88 years, of North Bend, Nebraska died Friday, April 3, 2015 at her home in North Bend. Hedvika “Hattie” Claussen was born October 2, 1926 at Prague, Nebraska to Andrew and Mary (Vyhlidal) Havlovec. She lived at Prague until the age of 13 when her family moved to a farm near North Bend. She was a 1944 graduate of North Bend High School. After graduation she moved to Fremont and worked at Rogers Tent and Awning for two years. Hattie married Vern H. Claussen on November 29, 1945 in North Bend. They farmed south of Morse Bluff, Nebraska for several years and moved into North Bend in 1954. She worked at the former Blevins Popcorn Plant in North Bend for several years and worked at Birchwood Manor from 1979 until 2006. She also cleaned part-time at North Bend Central High School. She enjoyed following her grandchildren’s sports events, baking cookies for the grandchildren, working Wonderword puzzles, playing cards, telling stories of the past and sharing life experiences with the young, and baking kolaches and horn rolls to everyone’s delight. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and St. Anne’s Altar Society all at North Bend. She is survived by son, James (Denise) Claussen of North Bend; daughter, Judy (Miles) Kleopfer of North Bend; five grandchildren, Jennifer Claussen of Snyder, NE, Charles(Lyssa)Claussen of Arlington, TX, Jessica Claussen of Omaha, Jody(Tom)Mullally of North Bend and Matt(Julie)Wesch of Colon, NE; and twenty great-grandchildren, Christian, Zack, Zac, Alex, Bryson, Brittany, Sean, Tyler, Tristan, Hannah, Kole, Ethan, Chelsey, Joseph, Eran, Nicholas, Danial, Kalab, Gemma and Elaina; friends, Mary Anne Emanuel and Betty and Eddie Watt of North Bend; and pets, Alfie and Buster. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vern who died on January 12, 1995; brothers, Victor, Adolph, Andrew and George Havlovec; sister, Mary Marusak of Abie, NE. Funeral Mass 2 PM, Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Charles Catholic Church in North Bend. The Rev. Father Donald Cleary will officiate. Visitation on Sunday from 5 PM to 8 PM with a Rosary /Vigil Service at 7:00 PM at Moser Memorial Chapel in North Bend. Burial will be at Woodland Cemetery in North Bend.
