John William "Billy" Wedgeworth Jr., 71, of Neches, surrendered his battle of failing health and took up his eternal residence with his Lord and Savior. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Neches with Rev. Charles Grasty officiating. He was born to John W. Wedgeworth, Sr. and Kathryn Brown Wedgeworth. He spent his early childhood in the Neches area and moved later with his family to Houston. In Houston, Billy spent a great deal of around the Boys Club and was a stand-out athlete excelling in baseball and basketball. After high school her went on to play basketball at the junior college level for South Texas School of Law for two year (1962-1964.) In 1965 he married beloved wife Teresa Graham of Houston and started work at the Houston Post Office Downtown. He was a sports and outdoor enthusiast. He played ball on numerous church and city leagues and coached his boys baseball teams. In 1980 he transferred his family to his East Texas roots and went to work for the Palestine Post Office while residing in Neches. For the next 20 years he continued to pursue his passion of playing, coaching, hunting, fishing and fellowship with his huge extended family and friends. Billy was a lover of stories and loved to share his memories of laughter with anyone that would lend an ear. He was preceded in death by his father and a great grandson, Konner James Williams. Survivors include his mother, Kathryn Brown Wedgeworth; wife of 49 years Teresa Nan Graham Wedgeworth; sons, John Stacy Wedgeworth and Cliff Morrell Wedgeworth; daughters-in-law, Rita Wedgeworth and Natalie Roosth Wedgeworth; sisters, Brenda Kay Thomas and Pamela Phillips; 4 grandchildren, Rachel Morgan Wedgeworth, Kara Wedgeworth, Holly Elaine Wedgeworth and Troy Wedgeworth. Pallbearers will be Bernard Moore, Jeff Jenkins, Jerry Wedgeworth, Doyce Wedgeworth, Van Brown and Troy Wedgeworth. (Online obit: Herrington Funeral Home 3/30/2015)
