Bio

July 10, 1938 - March 25, 2015 Martha Myril Hancock Vandergriff, 76, went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday morning, March 25, 2015. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28th, at Bright-Holland Funeral Home with Rev. Brandon Teague officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Cemetery at Roxton. Martha was born in Lamar County to Tonie M. & Gladys Moore on July 10, 1938. She was very proud of her work at First Baptist Church in Paris where she worked with many young children. Over the years she never encountered a child that she didn’t love or that didn’t love her. She is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Margie Mills and Mae Donaldson and a great grandchild, Kameron Pruett. Survivors include her husband Martin Vandergriff, two sons, Jeff Hancock & wife Kay of Faught and Mark Hancock & wife Nancy of Plano, one daughter, Lisa Hignight & husband Mitch of Blossom, two step-children, Wayne Vandergriff & Sheila Davis, three sisters, Faye Phillips of Waxahachie, Virginia Lenoir & husband Theo of Arthur City, and Debbie Huggins & husband Denny of Roxton, three brothers, W. J. “Dub” Moore of Paris, Tonie Moore & wife Pat of Chicota, Gene Moore & wife Jan of Simsboro, LA, and Jimmy Moore & wife Nancy of Powderly, grandchildren, Brandon Hancock of Paris, Kristi and Demetrius Sims of Paris, Cole and Erica Hignight of Blossom, Angie Guzman and husband Robert of Las Vegas, NV, Michael Pruett and wife Sarah of Cleburne, Gary Pruett of Cleburne, William “Billy” Hancock and wife Teresa of Wills Point, Chase Thacker and wife Lisa of Faught, Andrew Hancock of Oklahoma City, OK, Ryan Hancock and wife Carol of College Station, Alec Bryant and fiancée Brittany Hines of Paris, special friends, Anna and Clint Upchurch of Paris, 24 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Grandma spent endless hours cooking for family and friends. From perfecting her recipes for banana pudding to meatballs, whatever your favorite was, you could be sure that Grandma had plenty on hand for you. On March 25th, Grandma got her wings and soared to her heavenly home. We can only imagine the celebration she is enjoying with her family and we are quite sure that banana pudding is involved somewhere. We love you Myrtle May and we will see you again one day! The Word Strength and its meaning has been passed down for five generations beginning with Tonie and Gladys Moore. The verse Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me, perfectly describes the woman she was. Casket bearers will be her grandsons. Honorary bearers will be: James Sharrock, Fred Fangio, Lonnie O’Neal, Bobby Porter and Neal Parsons.
