MARY JULIE BARBER, 82, of Sweeny, Texas passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital surrounded by her loving family She was born December 6, 1932 in Fayetteville, Texas to Joseph Malota and Julie Baca Malota. Mary grew up on a farm near Lake Fayette in Fayetteville, Texas. She married Don D. Barber on February 26, 1959, a devout Catholic, she attended mass at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Sweeny, where she was an active member of the church and Sweeny community, with frequent visits to St. Joseph in Brazoria and St. John the Apostle in West Columbia. With her husband, she owned and operated a small business in Sweeny for 38 years until retirement in 2005. With coffee always in the pot, it was rare to walk into her store and not see a few patrons in just to visit. With three rambunctious boys in the house, and the husband that made them that way, she had to create a tough exterior that fooled no one. Everyone knew she had a heart full of love. Mary always had dinner in the oven, sweet tea brewed, and a welcoming heart for anyone that stopped by the house. In retirement she enjoyed her time spent with her husband, sons, daughter-in-laws, seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Mary is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald Dean Barber of Sweeny; sons, Edward Lee Barber and Susan Barber of Sweeny, and John Allen Barber and wife, Tina, of Sweeny; sister, Vlasta Brown and husband, Don, of Fayetteville; grandchildren, Jonathan Cole Barber and wife, Libby; Ashley Nichole Stevens and husband, Mark; Bryan Lee Barber, Joseph Dean Barber, Kevin Daniel Barber, John Paul Barber and wife, Rachael, Michael Ray Barber; Great-grandchildren, Micah Stevens, and Landry Cole Barber along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Julie; brother, Daniel Malota; son, Earl Ray Barber; and sister, Rosalie Malota. A visitation will be held Monday, March 23, 2015 at Baker Funeral Home in West Columbia, Texas from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m., with a Rosary being recited at 7:00p.m. A funeral mass will be performed on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at 10:00a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Sweeny, officiated by Fathers Daniel Baguio and Wencil Pavlovsky. Graveside services will follow at 3:00pm at Fayetteville Catholic Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Cole Barber, Bryan Barber, Joey Barber, Kevin Barber, John Paul Barber and Michael Barber.
