Vera J. Mixon Walker, 87, died Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories with Pastor Keith Hight officiating. Arrangements are by Memorial Park Funeral Home, 6969 E. Interstate 40. Vera J. Mixon was born May 20, 1927, in Erick, Okla., to Charlie J. Mixon and John Claud Harrell. Vera married Kenneth Walker on July 21, 1946, in Mobeetie. Granny lived in Sunray for 33 years. She loved gardening and was an excellent cook known for her amazing pies. Being a grandmother and great-grandmother was the joy of her life and Granny deeply enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and three sisters. Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Kenneth Walker; a daughter, Becky Lewis and husband Larry of Amarillo; two grandchildren, Shane Lewis and wife Jenny of Willow Park and Shalyn Burritt and husband Johnny of Fritch; and five great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Don and Sybil Harrington Cancer Foundation, to benefit Olivia's Angels or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice, 1600 Wallace Blvd., Amarillo, TX 79106; or Alzheimer's Association Panhandle, 415 S.W. Eighth Ave., Suite 300 Amarillo, TX 79101. The family will receive guest and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. (Published in Amarillo Globe-News, March 19, 2015)
