Bio

Dorothy (Dody) Sangalli Moritz, 90, was called home to her heavenly father on March 15, 2015. Dody was born on November 8, 1924. When she was a teenager, her mother Essie and stepfather Eddie Sangalli moved to Austin, where they owned Sangalli's Cafe. Dody attended and graduated from Austin High School in 1942, before attending the University of Texas where she studied Journalism. While at UT, she met the love of her life, James Moritz, and they married on June 3, 1944. Dody and Jim went on to celebrate 64 plus years of love and marriage. During the war Dody worked at the Capitol of Texas. At the end of the war, they moved to Houston where Jim attended UT Dental School. While in Houston their daughter Cheryl "Cherie", and the twins Jim and John were born. After the war, the family settled in Port Arthur, Texas where Jim established a dental practice, and they were blessed with two more children, Allan and Jana. Dody was very active with Trinity Lutheran Church of Port Arthur, as well as numerous social clubs. In 1967 they moved to Austin where Jim had a very successful Orthodontics practice. In 1976 Dody became the President of the Women's Dental Auxiliary to the Texas Dental Association. Dody was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, the Dorcas society, and small group ministry. Dody was one of the founding members of the Austin Optimistic Garden Club and together with Jim were Co-Founders of the 100 Club of Central Texas, benefiting the families of fallen First Responders. Dody was a member of the Crenshaw gym, where she attended water aerobics classes with several other friends that called themselves the Mermaids. Dody loved the color pink, even painting their home the color. She loved to play bridge with the couples club from Redeemer and was known for her competitive nature! Dody and Jim enjoyed many years after retirement traveling the world. Dody was an inspirational woman to everyone who knew her.
