Bio

The Sevy family is one of the earliest families to Greenbush township (Eureka, MI). They arrived in 1838. I have the following as children of David and Rhoda: Edmund, Ozi B, Harriett, Jenette, Orlinda, Miranda and Celestia. It's quite possible that they had more children, but these are the only ones I have found in the cemetery and the census records. Rhoda Sevy (age 43) shows up in Michigan in the 1850 census living with her husband David age 46, son Edmund age 20, daughter Harriett age 16, daughter Jenette age 13 and infant daughter Orlinda age 0. She then shows up in the 1860 census with her husband, Orlinda age 10 and Newell Bannister age 20. (daughter Harriet died in 1852 at the age of 18) She then shows up in the 1870 census living with David age 66 and daughter Orlinda age 20. Rhoda dies on Dec. 26, 1870 at the age of 63. David continues to show up in the 1880 census living with his son Ozi and his family. I'm not sure when David dies because the 1890 census was destroyed. I believe Rhoda is buried next to David. The stone next to his is unreadable and his family is all buried nearby. However, he stone that appears to be David's is wrong. It had been broken previously and put back together. The top reads David Sevy, but the bottom shows Rhoda's death date of Dec. 26 and the correct age of 63. We know the bottom part cannot be David's stone because he's still showing up in the 1880 census at the age of 75. Something is wrong with the information I'm gathering from the cemetery and from the census records.
