Bio

Walter D. Council was born on August 25, 1910 to Ed & Kathryn Council in Kerrville, Texas. Saved and baptized in Fillmore, OK. He attended May Avenue Church of the Nazarene for more than 60 years. He is survived by his children, Charles & Ruth Council; Barbara & James Eaton and Mary Rogers, all of OKC; a brother and sister in-law, Jim and Beaulah Council of Kerrville, TX; 14 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ellen Hood Council of 51 years; 1 son, John Walter Council; 2 brothers, Henry & Eddie Council, and 2 sisters, Mattie Chaney and Liddie Duru. Walter was a farmer in his early years in Tishomingo. Later in life, he moved to OKC and worked at the Acme brickyard for 21 years. He also owned and operated the Oklahoma County Court House Concession Stand and Commissary for 9 years. Walter was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Walter lived a very full life and the family wants you to celebrate his memory. He loved his garden; the bigger the better. If you set with him for any time at all, he would tell you stories about fishing and trout lining with Jo Ellen. Walter's favorite past time was playing dominoes. He was a master at figuring out your hand and knew every possible domino that could score. He loved music. So when you're sitting on the edge of a lake fishing or admiring a big green garden, think of Walter and smile. Published in The Oklahoman on July 4, 2002.
