Leonard was born on May 28, 1952 to James and Adeline (Vogeltanz) Semerad in West Point, NE. He graduated from Howells High School. Leonard was a truck driver doing local routes. He enjoyed socializing with people and spending time with his grandchildren. He liked John Deere tractors, attending auctions and car races, especially dirt track races. Leonard had been a member of the Dwight Fire Department since 2002. Leonard passed away on February 8, 2015 at the age 62 years, 8 months and 11 days in Dwight, NE. He is survived by his significant other, Lanise McDermott, Dwight, NE; sons, Andrew (Maria) Semerad, Malcolm, NE, Craig (Laura) Semerad, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Maya Semerad, Evan Semerad, Kaden Semerad; extended family, John (Wendy) McDermott, Denver, CO, Ron (Sue) McDermott, Omaha, NE, Tom (Tina) McDermott, Elkhorn, NE; Wade, Carmen, Dylan, Tyler, Sydney, Isaiah and Ashton McDermott; sisters, Norma (Frank) Hledik, Howells, NE, Gladys Tichota, Greenwood, MO, Lorene (Glen) Dloughy, Omaha, NE. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, James and Adeline Semerad; brother-in-law, Ervin Tichota.
