Grand Island (Nebraska) Independent February 1980 Violet L. Kohtz, 72, of Grand Island, died Friday in a local hospital. Services are pending at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Mrs. Kohtz was born Aug. 7, 1907, in Burwell, the daughter of Ed and Nora Carroll Darrah. She grew up in the Burwell area and has lived in Grand Island for the past 25 years. She had been a resident of a local nursing home for the past three years. Survivors include one daughter, Darlene Pelowski, and one son, Stanley Shelton, both of Grand Island; four sisters, Alice Nasi of Seattle, Washington, Eunice Bialy of Grand Island, Gladyce Price of Cheyenne, Wyo., and Pearl Stacy of Boise, Idaho; one brother, Lyle Darrah of Granby, Colo., and 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, one daughter, two husbands and one brother.
