Edward “Ed” Walter Michalke, age 77, was surrounded by his three sons when he went peacefully to be with the Lord on February 21, 2015 in Bryan, Texas. Ed was born August 17, 1937 to Ed Michalke and Elizabeth Mezik Michalke in Weimar, Texas. He graduated from Weimar High School in 1955, after which he served his country in the US Army until being accepted into the police academy in 1959. He served the State of Texas as a Trooper for the Department of Public Safety for over three decades. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing, hunting raising cattle, and being an expert in the kitchen. Throughout his life Ed was an Honorary Life Member of the Austin County Fair Association for which he served on the board for over 20 years, President of the Austin County Peace Officers Association, member of the Department of Public Safety Officer Association, Commander of American Legion Post 259, member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, active member of the New Bielau community, 4-H adult leader, Hochheim Prairie Insurance Board of Directors, and many more. Ed’s greatest accomplishment was as a father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Ed was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Alfred “Buddy” and Eugene “Gene” Michalke. He is survived by his sons Mark Michalke; Mike Michalke and wife Laurie, of Sealy, Texas; Marlen Michalke and wife Gretchen of Rowlett, Texas and mother of his sons, Clara Michalke Lindemann; grandchildren, Meagan Volking and husband Josh, Nathan Michalke and wife Lauren, Brandon, Melissa, Reagan, Carson, and Holden Michalke; great-grandchildren Jackson and Jameson Volking, and Sterling and Sutton Michalke; and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Pallbearers include Brandon, Nathan, Holden, James, and Wayne Michalke, Josh Volking, Dusty Nelson, and Steve Peterek. Honorary pallbearers include John Shely, Sterling and Sutton Michalke, and Jackson and Jameson Volking. Visitation is Wednesday, February 25 from 5-7 pm, with a Rosary and Vigil Service at 7 pm at Knesek Funeral Home, Highway 36S in Sealy, Texas. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Weimar, Texas on Thursday, February 26 at 10 am with a burial following at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Weimar, Texas. Memorial contributions can be made to the Ed Michalke Memorial Scholarship Fund at Citizens State Bank in Sealy, Texas.
