Longin J. Kucera, 97, of Howells, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, at Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Clarkson. Services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson, with the Rev. Dr. Earl F. Underwood Jr. officiating. Burial is at Clarkson National Cemetery. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Monday at Miller Funeral Home in Clarkson and continues Tuesday at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Mr. Kucera was born March 13, 1906, on a farm in Stanton County northeast of Clarkson to Fred and Magdelena (Pojar) Kucera. He attended rural school District 40. On March 24, 1931, he married Anna Prazan at Schuyler. He farmed north of Clarkson until moving to a farm near Howells in 1942. He lived there until entering Colonial Manor in January 2000. He raised hogs and broke horses for farming and riding. He also raised greyhounds for coyote hunting. He enjoyed dancing, hunting, fishing and making repairs on the farm. He also enjoyed playing the accordion and performed at the Riverside Ballroom in Norfolk. Survivors include two sons, Harvey (Joyce) Kucera of Columbus and Edwin Kucera of Norfolk; one sister, Viola Mahata of Elkhorn; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on Sept. 13, 2003; two brothers, Ervin and Emil; and two sisters, Jenny Manak and Clara Steffensmeier.
