Bio

On February 8, 2002 at 8:10 A.M., Ruby Dale Brigman Dixon went home to be with the Lord and her beloved husband, Durward Milton (Bob) Dixon, who preceded her in death. Picture No. 1 is of Ruby and Bob on their First Wedding Anniversary and Picture No. 2 is a more recent picture of Ruby. Ruby was born June 6, 1912 to James Arthur Brigman and Val Verda Collins Brigman. Ruby was loved by all who knew her. She numbered her friends by her acquaintances. She met everyone with a smile and an open mind. She loved automatically, because she was 100% God's child. Everything she did was based on God's direction as she understood it. When she was just 14, her mother died in childbirth and Ruby took over all the responsibilities of raising her four brothers and sister with her father, while she studied law at business college at night. When she was 18 she married Bob who was 23, and six months later her father died. She and Bob, then took over the responsibilities of her siblings. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and the Trinity Chorale in San Antonio. If you knew Ruby, you knew what the joy of being a Christian meant. She radiated that joy! The spirit of Ruby was the spirit of song. Perhaps her only regret was that she was physically unable to sing for the Lord her last few years. But if you listen carefully, you will hear her singing in heaven nowÉand it is the very sweetest sound of the very sweetest spirit. She is survived by her daughter, Bobbie Dale Dixon Giffen and her husband Courtney of San Antonio; her son, Ronald Lee Dixon of San Antonio/Washington, DC; her precious grandsons, Robert Lee Giffen and Russell Mark Giffen of New York, NY; her sister, Alice Brigman of Corpus Christi, TX; her brother, Billy Brigman and his wife Mary of Toledo, OH; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Brigman and Lorene Brigman, both of San Antonio; as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Her brothers, Odie Odell Brigman, Norville Valgene Brigman, and Averill Leroy Brigman, all of San Antonio, and Katherine Smith of Kerrville, her half-sister, preceded her in death. The Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 12, 2002 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Mission Park Funeral Chapels North, 3401 Cherry Ridge Dr. Services will be at the funeral home on Wednesday, February 13, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. officiated by the Rev. Johnny White. Following the Services, Ruby will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, Bob, in the Mausoleum at Mission Park North Cemetery, IH-10 West at the Camp Bullis exit. Pallbearers will be, Steve Atkins, Gene Brigman, Richard Hoag, Tom Morgenthaler, David Pierce and Michael Slifer. Honorary Pallbearers include Bill Zehner, Kyle O'Dell, Bob Stover, Bob Rymill, and Jim Hocker. Special gratitude goes to all of Ruby's friends, fellow church members at Trinity Baptist Church, all of the dozens of care givers, and especially to Irma Foley, Alice Wright, Letha Joens, and Tess Martinez, who gave her great care and comfort during her last months. Arrangements are with Mission Park Funeral Chapels North. Published in Express-News on Feb. 12, 2002
