He was born on June 12, 1914, in Taylor, Texas to Henry and Matilda (LaLa) Hejl. He married LaVern I. Hauswirth in 1944. She died on Aug. 18, 1996. Hank was a decorated Army Veteran of World War II having served in the European Theatre and taking part in the Battle of The Bulge. He had worked for the G. Heileman Brewing Co. of La Crosse for thirty-five years. He and his wife, LaVern, owned and operated Hank's Caf'e9 in Hokah for many years.
