Fern W. Schroeder Hall was born Jan. 16, 1919, at Bartlett, Iowa, to John Henry and Alta M. (Gibson) Schroeder. She departed this life to be with her Savior Jan. 30, 2015, at the Callaway Good Life Center. She was one of 12 children. At the age of seven her family moved to Nebraska. They lived near Broken Bow, Ansley, Dunning and Arnold. Fern attended Arnold High School, where she graduated in 1936. She was baptized in ‘Christ’ as a young woman and her faith continued to grow until she departed this life. In her early teens at the Climax Sunday School she met Cameron Hall who stole her heart. April 3, 1937, Cameron and Fern were married in Aurora. This union was blessed by eight children. Some of Fern’s happiest years were spent at the sod house where they lived until 1949, when they moved back to the ranch into the house they built themselves. They lived there until 1986 when they moved into Arnold. Fern had many talents, besides being a wife and mother, she taught school prepared income taxes, took the census and was an election official. She very rarely missed voting as ‘freedom’ was very important to her. She was also instrumental in getting senior meals in Arnold. She is survived by sons, Cameron Dee of Dunning, Ellis (Colleen) of Minot, N.D., and Lynn of Dunning; daughters, Larraine Holm of Cave Creek, Ariz., Paula (Bob) Becker of Central City, Marla Krout of Arnold, Arlene (Gary) Blagdon of Stapleton, and Nelda (Roy) Lynn of Frederick, Colo.; 22 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Gayle Godsey; sister-in-law, Norene Mills; many nieces and nephews; and her dear friend and caregiver, Lois Johnson. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cameron of 74 years; son-in-law, Jens Holm; daughter-in-law, Gladys Hall; brothers, Gene and Phillip who died at birth, Henry, Lawrence, Robert, Lloyd and Donald Schroeder; sister, Margaret Gift, Clara Keyser and Leona Eret. Fern will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. A celebration of Fern’s life will be at a later date. Govier Brothers Mortuary assisted with the arrangements.
