Fort Bend Herald, April 8, 2007: Funeral services for Stanley Leon Melnar, 82, of East Bernard, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, in the Chapel of Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Home in Rosenberg, with interment following at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. The Rev. Don Ruppert will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2007, at Davis-Greenlawn Funeral Chapel in Rosenberg. Stanley was born Nov. 10, 1924 in Wallis to Louis J. and Rosie (Velcek) Melnar. He grew up in the farm communities of Rosenberg and East Bernard. He also attended schools and churches in the same area. Early on, he farmed the land with his parents and also was employed at the Rice Farm business owned by the Fred Fojtik Sr. family. Stanley then enlisted with the United States Navy and served aboard the U.S.S. Yancey and participated in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. His home port was in San Diego, Calif. After being honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy, he was employed by Brown and Root on the pipeline and also by Duval Sulphur Company in Orchard. Later in his career, he worked for two different manufacturers of institutional furniture and cabinets in East Bernard. Stanley enjoyed his retirement years in East Bernard where he liked the small-town surroundings and knew almost everyone. He liked to associate with the many friends he made over the years in the same community. He was also active in attending Holy Cross Catholic Church. Stanley also liked attending the many area festivals and functions in East Bernard and surrounding areas. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 3903, American Legion Post 0226 and the Knights of Columbus in East Bernard. He passed away April 6, 2007 in Sugar Land. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Rosie Melnar; a brother, Victor W. Melnar; and sister-in-law, Margarette Melnar. Stanley is survived by his brother, Bennie J. Melnar and wife, Ann, of Ontario, California; sisters, Leona R. Carlson and husband, Dr. Rodger Carlson, of Battlement Mesa, Colo., Betty J. Marek and husband, Johnnie, of Stafford; nieces and nephews, Ronald C. Melnar and family of Las Vegas, Nev., Randall K. Melnar and family of Hollywood, Fla., Lou Ann (Marek) Mowka and husband, Steve, of Richmond, Carol B. (Marek) Prokop and family, of Shanghai, P.R. of China, Judy T. (Marek) Dunmire and husband, David, of Davis, Calif., and Kay M. (Marek) Munguia and family of Rosenberg. He is also survived by other relatives and many friends.
