David Joseph Spatz, 66 July 18, 1948 ~ January 22, 2015 David Joseph was born July 18, 1948 in Seward, Nebraska, to Adolph and Margaret M. T. (Pavel) Spatz. David graduated in 1966 from St. Thomas Aquinas High School, David City, Nebraska. He became a member of The Cathedral of The Risen Christ Catholic Church in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a valued member of the Nebraska Army National Guard, and served our nation in the Guard for 38 years. Living in Lincoln, he was a Budget Analyst for the State of Nebraska for 40 years. David belonged to the Dwight American Legion, was a Board member for Spirit of America Federal Credit Union, and Treasurer of Southwood Association for 43 years. He was also an avid farm toy collector. David Joseph Spatz, 66, of Lincoln, Neb., passed away on January 22, 2015 following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was preceded in death by wife, Marilyn; father, Adolph, nieces, Kathryn Spatz and Melissa Hinrichs; parents-in-law, Meredith & Bernadene Mumm. Left to cherish his memory are his son & daughter-in-law, Brian & Lisa Spatz of Lincoln; grandchildren, Taylor & Logan Spatz of Lincoln; mother, Margaret M. T. Spatz, brother & sister-in-law, AJ & Margaret Spatz of Seward, Neb.; sister & brother-in-law, Dorothy & David Nieland of Austin, Minn.; brother and sister-in-law, Tom & Marilyn Spatz of Des Moines, Iowa; sisters-in-law and husbands, Pat & Rex Hinrichs of Bruning, Neb., Cindy & Kim Schoenholz of Bruning; brother-in-law and wife, John and Holly Mumm of Alexandria, Neb.; many nieces & nephews; and a host of friends. Visitation Tuesday 9am-9pm at Butherus, Maser & Love Funeral Home, including a Rosary at 7pm Tuesday. There will also be visitation Wednesday, Jan. 28 9:30-10:30am at the Cathedral of the Risen Christ, 3500 Sheridan Blvd., Lincoln, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at the Cathedral, with Monsignor Robert Tucker as celebrant and offering words of comfort. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lincoln, Nebraska, with military rites. David Schmidt was the organist, and Sandy Danek soloist. The songs were "Amazing Grace", "Hail Mary, Gentle Woman", "I Am The Bread of Life" and "How Great Thou Art". Pallbearers were Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Detail, and Honorary Pallbearers were the 43rd Army Band. 17 members of the 43rd Army Band were able to be present for David Joseph Spatz. David was a truck-driver/bus-driver for the Band. He was a friend of the 43rd, and they liked him.
