Bio

SHINER: Edward James Caka, age 86, passed away Monday, January 26, 2015. He was born September 1, 1928 in Shiner to the late Jim and Ida Janak Caka. He was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, Hermann Sons , KJZT, Shiner Hobo Band, and retired as a heavy equipment operator from TxDOT after 39 years of service. He enjoyed music, especially polkas and waltzes and playing his accordion. He instilled the love of music to his children and grandchildren. Throughout his lifetime, he played in several local polka bands including the Shiner Hobo Band. Edward loved his family, ranching, dominoes, music, hunting and fishing and most of all, his grandchildren. He and his beloved wife Betty loved to travel. In 2001 his life changed after suffering a brain tumor that left him unable to talk or use his right arm. Even through all of this, he was able to enjoy his life through his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed by everyone. Survivors are his wife of 54 years, Betty Luco Caka of Shiner; daughters, Diana Wenske (Mark) of Shiner and Elaine Rawlings (Dennis) of El Campo; sons, James Caka (Kim) of Yoakum and Mark Caka of Round Rock; 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Wagner; twin brother, Edmund Caka (Marie) and Victor Caka (Delores) all of Shiner. Preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Patricia Caka Schneider. Rosary at the funeral home. Funeral Mass at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, with Rev. Kirby Hlavaty. Burial to follow at Shiner Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers are Todd Wenske, Derek Rawlings, Clay Rawlings, Jacob Schneider, Nathan Schneider and Calan Coleman. Honorary Pallbearers are Rebecca Schneider, Brandace Wenske, Jordan Wenske, Danae Boudiel, Carleene Rawlings, Ashlee Coleman, Morgan Caka, Kaitlyn Caka, and Lauren Caka.
