Bio
Donald Dean Engle, 86, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Primrose Retirement Community in Grand Island. According to his wishes, Mr. Engle was cremated. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Chapel, with Jay Towell officiating. Burial will follow in the Wood River Cemetery. Donald was born Jan. 12, 1929, to William and Viola (Watts) Engle in Fairbury. Donald married Hattie Williams on Aug. 5, 1950, in Grand Island. They owned the Jack and Jill store in Ord. The couple then moved to Grand Island in 1964. Don started working for Rainbo Bread and soon became known as the" Bread Man" in Grand Island and the surrounding communities. Don worked for Rainbo until he retired. He goes now with great enthusiasm to be with his wife, Hattie. He is survived by three daughters, Deborah Dockhorn, Diana Sutton and Denise Kauth; five grandchildren, Mary Beth O'Hern, Russell Dockhorn, James Augustine Jr., Adam Sutton and Amanda Sutton; and a great-granddaughter, Emily O'Hern. Donald was preceded in death by wife, Hattie; and granddaughter, Mary Beth.
