McKINNEY, HAL HOOPER May 14, 1916 -- April 18, 2006 Hal was born in Paris, Texas on May 14, 1916 to the parentage of Chester M. and Phoebe Hooper McKinney. He was reared in Cooper, Texas and attended public schools there. He attended East Texas State College and Southern Methodist University and was awarded a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1938. In August 1940, Hal married Mildred Dorothy Chapman and they were blessed with 61 years together before she died on December 24, 2001. They had one son, Hal Jr., who died in September 1997, following complications after surgery. Hal went to work for the Guiberson Diesel Engine Company in February 1937 as a draftsman at the Forest Avenue Plant. He transferred to the Guiberson Oil Tool Division after World War II. Hal remained there through the Dresser acquisition in 1956 and advanced to Director of Manufacturing for Guiberson Products in charge of plants at Forest Avenue, San Angelo, and Tulsa. Hal retired June 1, 1981 from Dresser Industries at the Forest Avenue Plant where he had started 44 years earlier. Survivors include his brother, Chester McKinney and wife Linda of Austin; daughter-in-law, Patricia McKinney of San Francisco; sister-in-law, Ruth Groves and husband Kenneth of Albuquerque; nieces, Margaret McKinney of Austin; Kem Ward and husband Dave of Austin; nephews, Ken Groves of New Mexico; Charles Wilmut and wife Janet of Dallas; Rev. Dr. W. J. Bryan III and wife Corinne of Dallas; Dr. Burt Bryan and wife Margaret of Coppell; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park.
