Chuck Heavin, age 69, of Sparta, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 in his home following a long battle with ALS. He was born February 21, 1945 in Seymour, Texas, the son of Clarence and Elsie (Pribyla) Heavin. He grew up in Baxter Springs, Kansas and graduated from Joplin High School. Chuck served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. He and Melva Hibner were married in November, 1967. Chuck was a founding member of Countryside Christian Church in Ozark. He was a local businessman with an entrepreneurial spirit, varying from mechanic to real estate and more. Chuck served as a councilman for the City of Ozark. He loved hunting, fishing, riding motorcycles, horseback riding, and most recently enjoyed writing short stories. Survivors include: His wife, Melva; two sons, Chris Heavin and wife JoDee and their children Brody and Emilee, and Marc Heavin and wife Dena and their sons, Marcus and Nicholas; a brother Wayne Heavin; a sister, Helen Ege and husband Jerry; uncles, Charles Heavin, Rex Heavin, and Charles Pribyla.
