COLOME, S.D. — Betty Eileen (Pesek) Fletcher, 66, of Colome, S.D., passed away peacefully with family by her side after her courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, at Avera Gregory Hospital in Gregory, S.D. Burial will be in the National Hall Cemetery west of Ord, following a Celebration of Life Service at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Melissa Fletcher officiating. Mason Funeral Home in Winner is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Fletcher was born July 8, 1948, at Sargent to James and Agnes (Vopat) Pesek. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Lonnie of Colome, S.D.; a daughter, Angie Bryan of Reno, Nev.; two sons, Scott and Kevin Hulinsky of Grand Island; a sister and brother-in-law, Elaine and JackVanSlyke of Arcadia; a stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Chad and Melissa Fletcher of Dell Rapids, S.D.; two stepdaughters and a stepson-in-law, Teresa and Jack Yeaman and Tanya Fletcher, all of Colome, S.D. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Tyler Hulinsky and Tessa Hatcher, both of Grand Island; five stepgrandchildren, Jeremiah and Elizabeth Yeaman of Colome, S.D., and Hannah, Kathryn and Joshua Fletcher of Dell Rapids, S.D.; her mother in-law, Norma Fletcher of Ravenna; Lonnie’s brothers’ and sisters’ families; and a special brother-in-law, Gene Borland of Tyndall, S.D. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents, Joseph and Mary Pesek, James and Stazie Vopat; ex-husband, Jerry Hulinsky; sister0in-law, Sheila Shaw; and father-in-law, Francis Fletcher. Betty lived on a farm eight miles east of Sargent, starting her education at a country school close by. In March 1959, the family moved to Loup City, where Betty graduated in 1966 from Loup City High School. She then worked for the Sherman County Extension Service in Loup City. On June 22, 1968, Betty married Jerry Hulinsky of Burwell. They made their home in Grand Island. To this union, one daughter and two sons were born, whom she totally loved and cared for. Over the years, she was employed at Chief Industries, Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Brown Transfer, Chief Automotive, G.I. Express and Cabela’s Call Center. Betty was baptized at the Abundant Life Church in Grand Island. On April 4, 2009, she married her high school sweetheart, Lonnie Fletcher, in Colome, S.D. They lived on Lonnie’s farm southwest of Colome. She worked part time at Linda’s Café and at the Colome Farm Service. She was very active in the Red Hats Society and the Sisters and Survivors in Winner, S.D. Betty never met a stranger. She was a very “special” person — full of love and energy. She thoroughly enjoyed taking pictures and kept them all in her library of photo albums. She loved horses, collected dolls, loved to dance and was diligently making rugs to give to her loved ones. Most of all, Betty enjoyed living on the farm with the love of her life, her husband, Lonnie, and being loved by all of his family. She never missed a family event if at all possible as her family meant so much to her.
