John M. Mensik, 62, passed away on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, in Waxahachie, Texas. Rosary will be held on Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 7 p.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis with visitation to follow from 8 to 9 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Monday, January 12, 2015, in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis with Father John Dick as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. John was born in Ennis, Texas, to John F. and Lydia Marie (Hajek) Mensik. He grew up in Ennis and graduated from St. John High School in 1971. He went on to the University of Dallas to receive his Bachelor Degree in Art. Prior to his teaching career, John was a master potter. He worked for St. John High School for 17 years as an Art, Photography and Art History teacher and for Milford ISD for 18 years as a Spanish and Art teacher. He was a member of the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and KJT. He was a devoted uncle who enjoyed fishing, travel, and cooking, for his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, John F. Mensik; a nephew, John Michael Woodward; and a brother-in-law, Howard Woodward. Survivors include his mother, Lydia Mensik; sisters, Annette Woodward and Lisa Macalik and husband, Tim; nephews, Matt Woodward and Josef Woodward; nieces: Katherine O’Connor, Sarah Macalik, and Mary Janousek; great-nieces, Lauren and Taylor; and a great-nephew, Wesley.
